Project 1: An Abstract Sculpture

Project 1: An Abtract Sculpture

The objectives of this project:
 Understand and execute the functions of Standard Primitives, Splines & Modifiers.
 Understand and utilise polygon modelling in producing the 3D models.

The learning outcomes of this project:

To produce 3D model of an abstract sculpture and AEC objects using 3DS Max.  To record Work in Progress (WIP) as progressive evidence of the working process.

Modifier list used as follows:
- TurboSmooth
- Edit Poly
- Symmetry

Of materials and bringing photos to 'LIFE'

Class: Lecture (2nd)
Date: 24/09/2012

In my second lecture class, I was taught how to add materials into objects and also create 3D models out of 2D photos.

Photo 1.1: Before adding material to basic shape models.

Photo 1.2: After adding material to basic shape models.

Photo 1.3: 'Extrating' 3D model clone out of 2D picture of a vase.

Simple Cup

Class: Tutorial (2nd)
Date: 20/09/2012

In my second tutorial class, I was taught how to create a simple cup from a cylinder.

1. Create a cylinder and select the top surface using 'polygon'.

2. Select the bottom surface and 'inset' to create the base of the cup.

3. After creating the depth of the cup, a 'line' is drawn on the side to create the handle of the cup.

4. The handle of the cup has been created in 3D.

5. Adjustments to the handle.

6. Completing it with 'TurboSmooth'.

From Snowman to Monster

Class: Tutorial (1st)
Date: 11/09/2012

In my first turorial class, lessons on how to make a basic scupture was taught. My lecturer started the lesson by teaching us how to make a snowman.

The snowman is created by inputting a 'sphere' object for the head and copy the sphere for the body. The copied spehere was scaled slightly larger than the first.

After the 'head' and 'body' of the snowman has created, the lecturer taught us how to bridge the two so it can be one. I also learned how to 'extrude' from the object to create character for the snowman.

Simple chair

Class: Lecture (1st)
Date: 10/09/2012

In my first lecture for this subject, I get to learn the basics of 3DsMAX from manipulating objects by scale, measurement and orientation.

The first classwork that I have to produce is creating a simple chair.

This chair is created using the 'box' object with the specficic measurements.
